The ISCAR 6402097 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for single-ended external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries an IC328 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiCN coating, which provides wear resistance and edge toughness at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert features a GIM style profile with a right-hand cutting orientation, a 0.1181-inch (3.00 mm) cutting width, and a positive 7-degree rake angle. A W-style chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow during interrupted or continuous grooving cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders.
This insert is engineered for grooving, profiling, and parting applications where tight tolerances and chip control are critical. The IC328 grade with TiCN coating is optimized for cutting superalloys and titanium alloys, as well as steel workpieces. The 4-degree lead angle and 0.0098-inch (0.25 mm) corner radius support precision groove profiles in aerospace and high-performance manufacturing environments where workpiece material hardness and work-hardening tendencies demand a tough, wear-resistant carbide grade.
Designed for use in Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GIM style, size 34 grooving inserts with clamp or screw holding. Suitable for machining superalloys, titanium, and steel workpieces per ISO material codes M, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is locked before seating or replacing the insert. Confirm the insert is fully seated in the pocket and that the clamping screw or clamp mechanism is tightened to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris that could cause insert rocking or premature edge failure.
