The ISCAR 6402093 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a GIM22J insert style designation with an IC328 manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied TiCN coating. The cutting width is 0.0866 inches (2.20 mm), with a corner radius of 0.0067 inches (0.17 mm). The positive rake geometry and J-style chip breaker promote efficient chip evacuation, reducing heat buildup when working in difficult-to-machine materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, medical, and high-performance manufacturing environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is rated for use on superalloys and titanium as its primary workpiece materials, making it well suited for aerospace component machining, medical implant turning, and other applications where material grades M, P, and S are encountered. The neutral hand orientation allows use on standard right-hand or dedicated grooving toolholders compatible with the Cut-Grip system. The single-end configuration delivers a consistent cutting edge for each insert. Its multi-use tool classification means it can handle both grooving and turning passes within the same setup where toolholder geometry allows.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders accepting GIM-style inserts with a 22J size code. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and clamping requirements before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts, and inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear before seating a new insert. Handle solid carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edge during installation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque guidance for the clamping screw and verify insert seating before resuming cutting operations.
