The ISCAR 6402089 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the IC328 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiCN coating, this insert delivers a cutting width of 4.00 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 2.40 mm. The double-ended configuration extends usable tool life, and the neutral hand orientation suits a wide range of turret and toolholder setups. Machining professionals and CNC operators working with difficult-to-cut materials will find this insert sized and graded for demanding production environments.
This insert is intended for grooving and cutoff applications where tight dimensional tolerances are required. Its primary workpiece material ratings target superalloys and titanium, making it well suited for aerospace, medical, and energy-sector part production. The E-style chip breaker geometry promotes positive chip control during interrupted or continuous grooving passes. The insert mounts in compatible Cut-Grip toolholders and conforms to ISO 13399 standards, supporting digital tool data integration in CAM and tool management systems.
Designed for use in ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept GIP-style inserts with size code 400040. Rated for material grades C2, C3, C5, and C6, and ISO material codes M, P, and S, covering carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, and superalloys including titanium.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, energy-isolated state per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the Cut-Grip pocket and confirm the clamping screw torque is applied per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert seating surface for chips or debris before clamping, as contamination can affect insert position and cut geometry. Do not use damaged or out-of-spec toolholders with this insert.
