The ISCAR 6402034 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the Cut-Grip series standard, this insert features a self-grip holding method that secures it firmly in compatible toolholders without additional clamping hardware. The uncoated IC20 grade carbide substrate is suited for a wide range of workpiece materials. With a cutting width of 3.99 mm (0.157 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.01 mm (0.079 inches), this insert handles light to moderate grooving passes. The full-radius geometry and positive 7-degree rake angle promote clean chip flow and reduce cutting forces. Machinists and toolroom operators install this insert as a direct replacement in Cut-Grip series toolholders.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, and S, which correspond to hardened steels, cast irons, stainless and alloy steels, non-ferrous metals, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is appropriate for both roughing and finishing groove profiles in high-mix production environments. The double-end design allows the insert to be flipped for a second cutting edge, extending usable tool life. Typical applications include external grooving, undercut profiling, and parting on general-purpose CNC turning equipment.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series toolholders that accept the GIPA insert style in the 400200 size code. ISO code GIPA 4.00-2.00 per ISO 13399. Confirm toolholder pocket specification before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and verify the self-grip mechanism is fully engaged before initiating a cut. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut of 2.01 mm without verifying toolholder and setup rigidity. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping or wear before each use and replace the insert if edge integrity is compromised.
