The ISCAR 6400850 is a solid carbide, uncoated grooving insert in the Cut-Grip series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This double-ended insert features a GIP style with a 4.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 11.80 mm, making it well-suited for medium-depth grooving applications. The IC20 uncoated carbide grade provides rigidity and edge sharpness, particularly effective when cutting conditions call for a clean, uncoated substrate. A positive rake angle of 7 degrees and a full corner radius of 2.00 mm contribute to smooth chip flow and consistent surface finish. Installed using a clamp-style holder, this insert suits machinists and CNC operators working across a broad range of workpiece materials.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, and S. It is appropriate for use in both production and job-shop turning environments where grooving operations are performed on lathes or turning centers with Cut-Grip compatible toolholders. The P chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during grooving passes. The double-ended design extends usable tool life by offering two cutting edges per insert, making it a practical choice for high-volume grooving cycles.
Designed for use with ISCAR Cut-Grip series clamping-style grooving toolholders that accept GIP-style inserts with a 400E200 insert size code. Compatible across ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, and S per ISO 13399 classification.
Installation and replacement of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and in a safe, locked-out state. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely in the pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Never exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended depth-of-cut or feed rate parameters for this insert size.
