The ISCAR 6200311 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Heliface series, designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the HFPR5025 style designation with a 5.00 mm (0.197 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.50 mm (0.098 inch). It features an IC808 grade substrate with a PVD-applied AlTiN, TiAlN, and TiN multilayer coating, delivering high heat resistance and wear life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The positive 7-degree rake angle reduces cutting forces, making this insert well suited for finishing and light interrupted cuts. Installation is handled by a mechanical clamp-style holding method, and the double-end configuration extends usable tool life per insert.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups P (steel), M (stainless), K (cast iron), H (hardened materials), and S (superalloys and titanium). It is used in production turning environments where consistent groove geometry and tight dimensional tolerances are required. The Heliface series is engineered for grooving applications on both OD and face grooving toolholders that accept HFPR-style inserts. This insert is installed and removed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct clamp key or torx driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamp without over-torquing. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
