The ISCAR 6200163 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Heli-Grip series, designed for external and face grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries an IC908 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides thermal resistance and extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert has a neutral hand orientation, a 0.25-inch (6.35 mm) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.1496 inches (3.80 mm). A positive rake angle of 7 degrees and a Y-style chip breaker support efficient chip evacuation during interrupted and continuous grooving passes. Machinists and CNC programmers in production and job-shop environments install this insert.
This insert is suited for universal application across multiple workpiece material categories, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous materials. The IC908 PVD-coated carbide grade performs well in both light and moderate cutting conditions where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy in grooves are required. The Heli-Grip series tooling system accepts this GRIP-style insert geometry, making it appropriate for high-volume turning operations where quick insert indexing and repeatable seating are priorities.
Designed for use with ISCAR Heli-Grip series toolholders that accept the GRIP insert style in size 635080. Compatible with material grades C1, C2, C6, and C7 workpieces and suitable for workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician following the machine tool manufacturer lockout procedure before any insert change. Seat the insert fully into the Heli-Grip toolholder pocket and secure with the clamping screw to the torque value specified in the ISCAR toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating to ensure accurate tool nose positioning. Do not exceed the published maximum depth of cut of 3.80 mm for this insert grade and geometry.
