The ISCAR 6200117 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the GRIP3002Y geometry and IC908 manufacturer grade. It is designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a TiAlN PVD coating applied over a carbide substrate, delivering heat and wear resistance suited for interrupted cuts and continuous grooving. With a 3.00 mm (0.1181 inch) cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 1.80 mm (0.0709 inch), and a positive 7-degree rake angle, it is engineered for controlled chip formation and dimensional accuracy. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert as part of routine tooling maintenance or setup.
This insert belongs to ISCARs Heli-Grip series and is suited for a wide range of workpiece materials including steels, stainless steels, cast irons, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous materials, as designated by material grade codes C1, C2, C6, and C7, and primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S. It is appropriate for both production and job-shop turning environments where grooving accuracy and tool life consistency are required. The neutral hand orientation allows straightforward application without handedness concerns during setup.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for ISCAR Heli-Grip series grooving toolholders accepting GRIP3002Y geometry inserts. Verify toolholder pocket specifications against the insert size code 3002 before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely in the pocket — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
