The ISCAR 6098336 is a solid carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 1.6 mm (0.0630 inch) cutting width, a GFR insert style, and is manufactured to IC354 grade with a PVD coating for extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The 8-degree right-hand lead angle and 7-degree relief angle promote clean chip evacuation and reduce cutting forces. This insert is part of ISCAR's Self-Grip series, which uses a clamping hold method for secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically install and index these inserts during production runs.
The 6098336 is suited for cut-off and grooving applications on stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes M and P. It fits residential and commercial machine shop environments, as well as production turning operations where tight tolerances and surface finish on parted components are required. The single-end insert configuration means it is indexed once before disposal. Its IC354 PVD-coated grade is selected specifically for work on stainless and steel alloys where heat resistance and edge retention are priorities.
Designed for use in ISCAR Self-Grip series toolholders that accept GFR-style cutoff inserts with a 1.6 mm cutting width. Verify toolholder compatibility using the insert style code GFR and insert size code 1.6 before installation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop, locked-out state per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or clamping key for the Self-Grip toolholder to seat the insert securely without over-torquing the clamp. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as insert failure at speed presents a serious hazard.
