The ISCAR 6097896 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GFN3M insert style designation and is manufactured in ISCAR grade IC328, a PVD-coated carbide grade optimized for superalloy and difficult-to-machine materials. The cutting width is 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches), with a neutral lead angle, a 7-degree relief angle, and a 0.20 mm corner radius. The M-style chipbreaker promotes controlled chip flow in tight grooving applications. This insert is part of the ISCAR Self-Grip series and is held in its toolholder by a clamp-style insert holding method.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting operations in production turning environments where consistent chip control and edge integrity are critical. The IC328 grade with PVD coating is formulated primarily for superalloy workpiece materials and is also rated for ISO material groups P and S. It fits single-end insert seats of size 3 and is compatible with Self-Grip series toolholders that accept GFN-style inserts. Typical applications include external grooving, cutoff operations, and face grooving on Swiss-type and conventional CNC lathes in aerospace and high-precision machining shops.
Designed for use with ISCAR Self-Grip series toolholders that accept GFN insert style with an insert seat size of 3. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and clamping method before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert body. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
