The ISCAR 5990395 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting external Stub Acme threads. It carries the IC908 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, making it suitable for a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert produces right-hand external threads at 16 threads per inch and seats in standard 16ER-style toolholders. With a 3/8 inch (0.375 inch decimal) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches, it fits the geometry expected by machinists running Stub Acme threading operations on CNC lathes or manual turning equipment. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals specify this insert for precision thread-form accuracy on power transmission and motion-control components.
This insert is intended for external Stub Acme threading applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials, as indicated by the universal primary workpiece material classification covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is suited to production and repair turning operations where Stub Acme thread forms are required, such as lead screws, linear actuators, and jack screws. The 16ER insert style makes it compatible with 16ER-designated threading toolholders in the ISCARTHREAD series.
Designed for use with 16ER-style threading toolholders in the ISCARTHREAD series. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as classified under the universal primary workpiece material designation. Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the lathe spindle is fully stopped and all energy sources are locked out before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully into the 16ER toolholder pocket and confirm secure clamping before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters for this insert style and grade.
