The ISCAR 5691868 is a solid carbide milling insert from the HELIOCTO series, designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling operations. It carries an octagonal shape with 8 cutting edges per insert, making it a cost-effective choice for production environments. The insert is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process under the IC950 manufacturer grade, which provides heat resistance and wear protection at the cutting edge. At 0.179 inches thick with an inscribed circle of 0.701 inches, this neutral-hand insert fits standard HELIOCTO toolholders and is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in CNC and conventional milling applications.
This insert is engineered for cutting steel and cast iron, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. It is suited for both roughing and finishing passes where a positive rake geometry and a honed cutting edge style are preferred. The chip breaker designation 76 governs the edge geometry and chip flow characteristics for those material groups. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.209 inches and a cutting edge effective length of 0.209 inches, it fits a range of axial engagement scenarios in production milling. The screw-holding method provides secure clamping in compatible toolholders.
Designed for use with ISCAR HELIOCTO series milling toolholders that accept OFMR 0704 insert seats. Compatible with material grades C1, C2, C3, C5, and C6 per ANSI classification. Suited for machining steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is secured via a screw-clamp holding method — use the correct torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to avoid seat damage or insert fracture. Index or replace the insert only after the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out per shop safety procedures. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a fresh edge. Machining professionals should follow applicable shop safety standards and toolholder manufacturer guidelines when setting cutting parameters.
