The ISCAR 5508308 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the ICP series, designed for use with compatible ICP-style modular drill bodies. Manufactured to ISO 13399 standards, this insert carries the IC908 grade designation, which is a submicron carbide substrate processed with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. The cutting diameter is 0.319 inches, the included drill point angle is 140 degrees, and the overall height or projection measures 0.213 inches. The cutting edge is honed and the drill point is web-thinned for improved chip formation and center-cutting performance. Two spiral flutes in a slow-spiral configuration support chip evacuation in deep-hole applications.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary capability in stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The geometry code P and ISO number ICP 081 identify the seat size and tip profile for proper fitment in ICP-series drill bodies. Typical applications include production drilling in CNC machining centers and turning centers where replaceable-tip tooling reduces downtime compared to regrindable solid drills. The insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of two units.
Designed for use with ICP-series replaceable-tip drill bodies accepting an insert seat size 8 and ISO number ICP 081. Confirm body compatibility using the ICP 081 designation before ordering.
Replaceable tip drill inserts of this type are installed and removed by a licensed machinist or tooling technician using the manufacturer-specified torque tool or key for the ICP body system. De-energize and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the drill body seat and clamping surfaces for debris or damage before seating the new insert. Do not use substitute keys or improvised tools, as improper seating will affect runout and can cause insert fracture under cutting loads.
