The ISCAR 5505952 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Isoturn series, this WPEX-style trigon insert features an 80-degree included angle and a 3/8-inch inscribed circle diameter. The uncoated IC20 substrate is optimized for cutting non-ferrous metals, delivering sharp, consistent edges without the thermal buildup associated with coated grades. The 1/64-inch corner radius (0.0157 inch) produces fine surface finishes while maintaining edge strength. A screw-in insert holding method provides positive, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning operations on non-ferrous workpiece materials including aluminum, copper alloys, and similar materials. The X chip breaker geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation in light to medium depth-of-cut applications. Typical installations are found in production turning environments where dimensional accuracy and surface finish consistency are required. CNC machinists and toolroom operators working with non-ferrous materials will find this insert appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for Isoturn series toolholders accepting WPEX-style trigon inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and screw-in mounting. Verify toolholder pocket dimensions and insert size code 060 compatibility before installation.
This insert should be installed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician familiar with indexable turning toolholder systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or contamination before seating the new insert to ensure accurate positioning.
