The ISCAR 5505916 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT 3-2-PF IC907 designation, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN and Titanium Nitride coating under the IC907 manufacturer grade, which supports extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 9.5 mm (0.374 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 5/32-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The 80-degree diamond shape and positive rake geometry reduce cutting forces and support clean chip evacuation. This insert is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and is installed by machinists and CNC tool-setting technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning operations on a range of materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials, as indicated by the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes where a positive rake angle and PF chip breaker geometry are needed to control chip flow and maintain surface finish. The screw-holding method and CPMT insert style are compatible with standard lever- and screw-lock toolholders designed for this insert geometry. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and contour work on medium to small CNC lathes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use turning insert for screw-lock CPMT-style toolholders accepting an 80-degree diamond insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to the CPMT insert style and Clearance Code P, Tolerance Code M specifications per ISO 13399.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine in a powered-off and locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the pocket before tightening the clamping screw; avoid over-torquing the screw to prevent insert fracture. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure proper insert contact and runout accuracy. Refer to the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification for the clamping screw, as this value is specific to the toolholder and is not defined by the insert itself.
