The ISCAR 5505561 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill designed for precision hole-making in demanding machining applications. Part of the IDI-SK series, this insert features a 0.846-inch (21.49 mm) cutting diameter and a 140-degree included drill point angle with a thinned point geometry for reduced thrust and improved centering. The TiAlN coating is applied via a PVD process, delivering heat resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. Manufactured to ISO 13399 standards, it carries ISCAR grade IC908 with a submicron carbide substrate. Machinists and CNC operators install this tip into compatible IDI-SK series drill bodies on turning centers and machining centers.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling cast iron as its primary workpiece material, with secondary capability in steel, stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The slow spiral flute design and corner chamfer style make it well-matched to shorter-chipping materials like gray and ductile cast iron. It fits insert seat size 21 and uses a twist holding method for secure engagement in the drill body shank. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in production machining environments where consistent diameter and finish are required.
Designed for use with IDI-SK series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 21. Compatible primary workpiece materials include cast iron (K); secondary materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the replaceable tip. Use the correct ISCAR torque key for the twist-lock interface — do not use makeshift tools that could damage the seating surface or insert pocket. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before installing a new tip, as contamination will affect runout and hole diameter accuracy.
