The ISCAR 5505522 is a TPMT-style solid carbide turning insert from the Isoturn series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Coated with TiAlN and TiN via a PVD process, the IC907 grade delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials. The triangular insert geometry features a 60-degree included angle, a positive rake, and an 11-degree relief angle, which together reduce cutting forces and support clean chip formation. Installed by machinists and CNC operators, this insert is a screw-held design suited to high-production turning environments.
This insert is suited for turning operations involving hardened steels, stainless steels, heat-resistant superalloys, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and general steel workpieces, as indicated by its primary workpiece material codes. It fits into TPMT-compatible toolholders and is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes depending on depth of cut. The maximum depth of cut is 4.00 mm (0.157 inches), making it well matched to medium-duty turning applications in job shops and production machining facilities.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine powered down and locked out before insert changes. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw to the correct engagement without overtightening. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer documentation for proper torque procedure and insert orientation.
