The ISCAR 5505469 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert belonging to the IDI-SK series, designed to seat into compatible IDI-SK modular drill bodies. The cutting tip is manufactured from solid carbide at a submicron grain grade IC908 and carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for thermal and wear resistance during high-productivity drilling operations. The 140-degree included point angle with web thinning reduces thrust forces at entry and improves chip evacuation. At 0.535 inches cutting diameter and 5.99mm (0.236 inches) in height, this insert is a precision-fit component intended for use by machinists and tooling technicians in production drilling environments.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling cast iron as its primary workpiece material, with secondary capability in steel, stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The slow spiral flute geometry and corner chamfer style make it appropriate for stable, controlled drilling in short-chipping materials such as gray and ductile cast iron. Typical applications include production drilling on CNC machining centers and turning centers where repeatable hole geometry and tool-change efficiency are required. The insert conforms to ISO 13399 standards for tooling data representation.
Designed as a replaceable tip for IDI-SK series modular drill bodies, insert seat size 13, ISO number IDI 136-SK. Verify drill body seat size and series designation before installation. No coolant-through feature on this insert.
Installation of replaceable tip drills should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state. Seat the tip firmly into the IDI-SK body pocket using the twist-lock method per the tool body manufacturer guidelines, ensuring the contact surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris. Do not use impact tools to seat the insert. Confirm tip engagement and runout with a dial indicator before commencing cutting operations.
