The ISCAR 5505236 is a carbide replaceable tip drill from the IDI-SG series, designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. The drill tip carries the IC908 manufacturer grade, a submicron solid carbide material with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that resists heat and wear at elevated cutting speeds. The cutting diameter is 0.736 inches, the included angle is 140 degrees, and the flute type is slow spiral with a thinned web point for reduced entry thrust. Two flutes channel chips away from the cutting zone. This is a replacement tip component — it is not a complete drill body — and is installed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel on compatible IDI-SG shank bodies.
The 5505236 tip is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The slow spiral geometry and web-thinned point make it effective across a wide range of workpiece hardness levels. It is a general-purpose drilling insert intended for production environments where consistent hole quality and tip replaceability reduce downtime compared to solid drill replacement. The SG insert geometry and size 18 insert seat designate the specific body interface required for correct seating and retention.
Designed for use with IDI-SG series replaceable tip drill bodies requiring a size 18 insert seat and SG insert geometry. The ISO number for this tip is IDI 187-SG. Confirm shank body seat size and geometry before ordering.
Installation and tip changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before removing or seating a replaceable tip. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench or key for the twist-lock retention method — do not use impact tools or improvised drivers. Inspect the insert seat for chips, contamination, or wear before seating the new tip, as seat damage will affect runout and hole quality.
