The ISCAR 5505151 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for the IDI-SG series modular drilling system. Manufactured to the IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers high wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding drilling operations. The tip features a 140-degree included angle, a web-thinned point for reduced thrust forces, and a slow spiral flute geometry. Cutting diameter is 0.811 inches and functional length is 0.219 inches. The SG insert geometry and size 20 seat keep the tip locked securely in the IDI-SG holder body. Installation and replacement are performed by machinists and tooling technicians as part of a modular tooling changeover.
This replaceable tip is suited for general-purpose drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The TiAlN PVD coating handles the elevated cutting temperatures common in these workpiece categories. The two-flute spiral design promotes chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications on CNC machining centers and drill presses. This insert does not feature coolant-through capability, so external or flood coolant delivery should be used when workpiece material or cut depth requires it.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for ISCAR IDI-SG series modular drill holders, ISO number IDI 206-SG, with a size 20 insert seat. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), superalloys and titanium (ISO S), and hard materials (ISO H).
This insert is installed and removed by a machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate ISCAR IDI-SG torque key — consult the holder manufacturer documentation for the correct tightening procedure. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is secured in a vise or fixture before swapping the tip. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or contamination before seating the new tip. External or flood coolant is recommended since this insert does not include coolant-through capability.
