The ISCAR 5505091 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert from the IDI-SG series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in demanding machining environments. The insert is manufactured from submicron solid carbide in grade IC908 and carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for thermal resistance and extended tool life. The cutting diameter is 0.3620 inches, the drill point angle is 140 degrees, and the geometry uses a thinned web point with a slow spiral, two-flute configuration. The SG insert geometry seats into size-9 insert holders. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC drilling operations.
The 5505091 is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The general-purpose style makes it applicable across a wide range of production drilling scenarios where consistent hole quality and insert replaceability are priorities. The slow spiral flute design supports controlled chip evacuation in these material groups. Coolant-through capability is not included in this insert design, so external or flood coolant delivery should be planned accordingly at the machine level.
Designed for use with IDI-SG series replaceable tip drill bodies that accept size-9 SG insert seats. ISO number reference is IDI 092-SG. Verify holder seat size and insert geometry designation before ordering.
Replaceable tip drill inserts are installed and indexed by machinists following machine tool manufacturer torque and seating procedures for the specific holder body. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating any insert. Ensure the insert seat is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the new tip, as contamination will affect runout and hole quality. Do not use damaged or worn holder bodies, as proper insert retention depends on the condition of the seat and clamping mechanism.
