The ISCAR 5504899 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. Belonging to the IDI-SG series, this tip features a 0.492-inch cutting diameter and a 140-degree included drill point angle with a thinned web point for improved centering and reduced thrust. The TiAlN coating is applied via a PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during dry or minimal-coolant cutting operations. It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals working with precision drilling setups on CNC machining centers and drilling machines. The IC908 grade submicron carbide substrate supports consistent edge retention across a range of work materials.
This replaceable tip is engineered for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO workpiece material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It fits the IDI-SG insert seat size 12 system, making it appropriate for general-purpose drilling in both production and job-shop environments. The slow spiral, two-flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in tougher alloys and work-hardening materials. This tip is sold individually per package, with a minimum order quantity of two units.

Installation and replacement of carbide drill tips should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any replaceable tip insert. Use the manufacturer-recommended torque tool and follow the IDI-SG body instructions for proper tip engagement — do not overtighten or force the twist-lock retention. Inspect the insert seat for chips or contamination before installing a new tip to ensure accurate seating and runout performance.
