The ISCAR 5504891 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the IDI-SG series, designed for precision hole-making in demanding industrial and machining applications. The drill tip is manufactured from solid carbide at IC908 submicron grade and features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, providing excellent wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. With a 0.531 inch (17/32 inch) cutting diameter, a 140-degree included angle, and a web-thinned point, this drill reduces entry thrust and improves chip evacuation in difficult materials. It is installed and serviced by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC machining centers and drill presses.
The 5504891 is engineered for general-purpose drilling across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. These correspond to ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. The slow-spiral, two-flute geometry suits applications where controlled chip flow and consistent hole quality are priorities. The replaceable tip design allows the cutting head to be swapped at the machine without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing changeover time in production environments.
Designed for use with IDI-SG series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 13. ISO number reference IDI 135-SG. Consult the ISCAR IDI-SG body selection guide to confirm shank and body compatibility before ordering tips.
Replaceable tip drills must be installed by trained machinists following the tool manufacturer torque and seating procedures for the specific drill body. Ensure the spindle is powered down and locked out before removing or installing the cutting tip. Inspect the insert seat and twist-lock interface for damage or debris before seating a new tip. Follow facility tool-change protocols and applicable machine guarding requirements during all tooling service operations.
