The ISCAR 5504874 is a DCMT-style solid carbide turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Coated with TiAlN and TiN via a PVD process in the IC907 manufacturer grade, this insert delivers strong wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials. The diamond insert shape carries a 55-degree included angle and a positive rake geometry, supporting lower cutting forces and clean chip evacuation. It measures 11.6 mm in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and features a screw-clamping holding method for secure, repeatable positioning.
This insert is suited for turning applications involving steel, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and other materials classified under ISO workpiece material groups H, M, and S. The SM chip breaker geometry is appropriate for light to medium depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.098 inches. Typical install scenarios include production turning cells in aerospace, oil and gas, and general machining environments where consistent surface finish and tool life are priorities. Installation is performed by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals.
Designed for use in DCMT-compatible toolholders with a screw-clamp insert seat accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 55-degree diamond insert. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S workpiece materials per IC907 grade specification. Material grades C7 and C8 apply.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop and all spindle motion confirmed off. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw to the correct engagement without overtightening. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow shop-level lockout/tagout procedures before accessing the cutting zone.
