The ISCAR 5504773 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Designated grade IC907 with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating, this insert delivers reliable performance across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides a strong cutting geometry while the positive rake and SM chip breaker promote controlled chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. At 9.70 mm in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, this insert is a compact, high-precision consumable for production turning environments.
The 5504773 belongs to ISCAR's Isoturn series and is suited for light to medium turning passes with a maximum depth of cut of 2.50 mm (0.0984 inches). It is appropriate for machining hardened materials (H), stainless and heat-resistant alloys (M and S workpiece categories), making it a practical choice for aerospace, medical, and general industrial turning applications. The screw-holding method provides secure insert clamping in compatible CCMT toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production facilities are the primary installers and users of this insert.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-on turning toolholders. Compatible with workpiece material categories H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. Conforms to ISO 13399 standards. Material grades C7 and C8 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's recommended procedure — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide body. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for debris or damage before installing a fresh insert.
