The ISCAR 5504092 is a CNMG 430-SF turning insert from the Isoturn series, manufactured in cermet substrate with a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN coating. It carries an 80-degree diamond shape (insert shape code C) with a 0-degree relief angle (clearance code N) and tolerance code M. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 0.5079 inches (12.90 mm), and the corner radius is 0.0079 inches. Designed for external turning operations, this insert is held by clamp or pin and is suited for finish to semi-finish cutting passes where edge consistency and wear resistance are required. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers.
The 5504092 is engineered for turning stainless steel (ISO material code M) and carbon and alloy steels (ISO material code P). Its SF chip breaker geometry is optimized for stable chip formation and low cutting forces, making it well suited for finish turning on parts where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. The maximum depth of cut is 0.0787 inches (2.00 mm). It conforms to ISO 13399 standards and carries material grades C6 and C7, placing it in the coated cermet category used across both CNC production and manual turning centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for toolholders accepting CNMG 430 geometry with clamp or pin retention, suitable for CNC and manual lathes used in steel and stainless steel turning applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before placing a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
