The ISCAR 5503801 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG 431-TF geometry, part of the Isoturn series. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle and a TF chip breaker design. The insert is uncoated (bright finish) with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.016-inch corner radius, and an insert length of 12.90 mm (0.508 inches). It carries a clearance code of N and tolerance code of M. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert in clamp-and-pin style toolholders for turning and boring operations across a wide range of workpiece materials.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. Typical applications include external turning, internal boring, and general-purpose lathe work on ferrous metals, non-ferrous alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and hardened materials. The TF chip breaker geometry supports consistent chip control across light to moderate depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 3.99 mm (0.157 inches). It is suited for both roughing passes at shallower depths and finishing operations where edge consistency matters.
Designed for use in CNMG-style clamp-and-pin toolholders that accept a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick diamond insert. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as stated by the manufacturer. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge alignment.
