The ISCAR 5503790 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPGH style, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN coating and is ground to a left-hand cutting direction. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with an 11-degree relief angle and a 0.0157-inch corner radius, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. At 0.6496 inches in length with a 0.3748-inch inscribed circle diameter, the 5503790 belongs to ISCAR's Isoturn series and is held in place via a screw-clamp toolholder. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a replaceable cutting edge in compatible TPGH-style toolholders.
This insert is rated primarily for stainless steel and steel workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes M and P. The Isoturn series is widely applied in general turning, facing, and profiling operations in both production shops and job-shop environments. Maximum depth of cut is 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches), positioning this insert for light to medium material removal rates where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. The L chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation during these cuts.
Designed for use in TPGH-style screw-clamp turning toolholders within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Intended for left-hand cutting setups on CNC and conventional lathes processing stainless steel and steel workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to engage the clamping screw, and ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before installation. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert geometry.
