The ISCAR 5503226 is a DNMG-style turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 55-degree diamond insert shape with a positive rake geometry and a neutral 0-degree relief angle (Clearance Code N, Tolerance Code M). The substrate is cermet with a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN multilayer coating, giving it the wear resistance and edge retention needed for finishing and semi-finishing cuts. The insert measures 11.63 mm (0.4579 inches) in length with a 3/8 inch (0.3748 inches) inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch (0.0157 inches) corner radius. Maximum depth of cut is 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches). It belongs to the ISCAR Isoturn series and is held in place by clamp or pin mounting.
This insert is engineered for turning stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups M and P. It is suited for finishing and light semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances and superior surface finish are priorities. The NF chip breaker geometry is optimized for low-feed, fine-finishing applications. Typical use is in production turning on CNC equipment in metalworking shops, tool rooms, and job shops where consistent edge life on difficult-to-machine alloys is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders accepting DNMG-style inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, Clearance Code N, and Tolerance Code M. Confirm toolholder seat and clamping method before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all power is removed from the CNC control before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and engage the clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping components for wear or debris before installing a new insert to prevent premature edge failure.
