The ISCAR 5503038 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Designated WBMT 520L IC-354, it features an 80-degree trigon insert shape with a positive rake geometry and a 5-degree relief angle. The insert carries a TiCN coating applied via PVD process, providing wear resistance suited for steel and stainless steel workpiece materials. With an inscribed circle of 0.1563 inches (5/32 inches) and a corner radius of 0.0079 inches, this insert is configured for left-hand cutting operations. It is seated and held by a screw-clamp insert holding method.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and is intended for turning operations on ferrous materials, including steel (ISO material group P) and stainless steel (ISO material group M). It is suited for external turning, facing, and profiling passes in production and job-shop environments. The maximum depth of cut reaches 20.00 mm (0.0790 inches), making it appropriate for moderate material removal as well as finishing work. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in precision machining shops are the typical installers and users of this insert. Sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and direct-fit insert for ISCAR Isoturn series left-hand turning tool holders accepting WBMT-style inserts with a screw-clamp holding method. Compatible with ISO material groups P (steel) and M (stainless steel) workpiece materials per manufacturer designation.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the tool holder specification — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket and shim seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and indexing.
