The ISCAR 5502848 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for general-purpose external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Following the CNMG 431-PP designation, it features an 80-degree diamond insert shape, a positive rake geometry, and the PP chip breaker profile for controlled chip flow across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert is uncoated and carries the IC10 manufacturer grade. It measures 12.90 mm (0.5079 inches) in length with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. Holding method is clamp and pin, consistent with standard CNMG toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators specify this insert when a versatile, uncoated carbide grade is required across the Isoturn series.
The 5502848 is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups K, N, and S. This makes it applicable to cast iron, non-ferrous materials, and heat-resistant superalloys in both light and moderate cutting conditions. The maximum depth of cut is 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches). The Isoturn series application context covers standard turning, facing, and profiling operations in production and job-shop environments. Installation is performed by qualified machinists following toolholder manufacturer specifications for seating and clamping torque.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CNMG toolholders within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling specialists. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any indexable insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer clamping procedure; do not exceed specified clamp screw torque values listed in the toolholder documentation.
