The ISCAR 5502835 is a DNMG 331-PP solid carbide turning insert in the Isoturn series, ground to an uncoated IC20 grade. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a neutral clearance angle (N), making it well-suited for finishing and light-to-moderate material removal. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.3748 inch), insert length is 0.4579 inch (11.63 mm), and the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.0157 inch). The PP chip breaker geometry controls chip flow effectively across a range of feed rates. This insert is installed by CNC lathe operators and machinist trades in production and job-shop turning operations.
The ISCAR 5502835 is designed for turning applications on cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO workpiece material groups K, M, N, and S. The Isoturn series targets external and internal turning where consistent insert geometry and close tolerance (M tolerance code) are required. Typical use cases include finish turning, contour turning, and light profiling passes where corner geometry and chip control are critical to surface finish and tool life.
Designed for use with DNMG-style turning tool holders that accept 55-degree diamond inserts with a clamp and pin holding method, per ISO 13399 standards. Compatible with tool holders specifying M tolerance and N clearance for the DNMG 331 insert size code.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC lathe technicians. Before changing inserts, the machine must be powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamp screw driver specified by the tool holder manufacturer when securing the clamp and pin; do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and avoid premature edge failure.
