The ISCAR 5502783 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the VNMG style, part of the Isoturn series. It features a 35-degree diamond insert shape with a positive rake geometry and a 0-degree relief angle (clearance code N, tolerance code M). The inscribed circle measures 9/32 inches (0.2815 inches), the insert length is 0.4882 inches (12.40 mm), and the corner radius is 0.0079 inches. These dimensions make it suited for light to medium turning passes where dimensional accuracy and edge consistency are critical. It is held using a clamp and pin system and carries material grade C1 with the NF chip breaker designation. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The NF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing passes. Primary workpiece materials are non-ferrous (N) and superalloys (S), with secondary suitability for cast iron (K). It conforms to ISO 13399 standards, making it compatible with tool management and presetting systems that support that data format. The Isoturn series is widely applied in precision component shops, aerospace subcontracting, and general metalworking environments where tight tolerances are held consistently.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders compatible with the Isoturn series. Primary workpiece material codes K, N, and S are supported. Verify toolholder bore and insert seat dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp to ensure accurate tool nose positioning. Inspect the insert seat and clamping pin for debris or wear each time an insert is indexed or replaced.
