The ISCAR 5502698 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMA style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries an IC428 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied TiC and Al2O3 coating for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert has an 80-degree trigon shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 0.03125 inches (1/32 inch). Insert length is 8.7 mm (0.3425 inches) with a thickness of 0.1874 inches. It is held in the toolholder via clamp and pin and is part of the Isoturn series.
This insert is suited for turning cast iron, hardened materials, and steel workpieces in production and job-shop environments. The IC428 grade with CVD coating is well matched to interrupted and continuous cuts on cast iron and steel at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. Maximum depth of cut is 4.0 mm (0.1575 inches). The chip breaker designation is A, optimizing chip control across typical finishing and semi-finishing applications. It is installed in Isoturn-series toolholders that accept WNMA-style inserts. This product is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in Isoturn-series toolholders accepting WNMA-style inserts. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (K), hard materials (H), and steel (P) per ISO material group codes.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before installing to maintain proper seating and edge geometry. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as this can crack the insert.
