The ISCAR 5502310 is a solid carbide triangular milling insert in the ISCARMILL series, designed for high-performance milling operations across a range of demanding workpiece materials. Carrying the IC20 manufacturer grade and an uncoated bright finish, this insert features a positive rake geometry with an 11-degree rake angle, a honed cutting edge style, and three usable cutting edges. The corner radius measures 0.0157 inches (0.41 mm), and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.3748 inches. With a flat top chip breaker and neutral hand orientation, it suits a wide variety of milling setups where insert versatility and edge consistency are priorities. Licensed ISCARMILL toolholders using the clamp holding method are required for proper seating.
This insert is rated for use on stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material codes M, K, N, S, and H. It is well suited for both roughing and finishing passes in milling applications where consistent chip control and edge integrity are essential. The ANSI code is TPU 321 IC20 and the ISO code is TPUN 160304, conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. Typical install environments include job shop CNC milling, production machining, and maintenance machining on difficult alloys.
Designed for use in ISCARMILL series toolholders that accept TPU-style inserts held by clamping. Conforms to ANSI code TPU 321 IC20 and ISO code TPUN 160304 per ISO 13399 standards, making it compatible with compliant tooling systems specifying that insert designation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Shut down the machine and verify a zero-energy state before removing or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamp seating without over-torquing. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
