The ISCAR 5502157 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the TPGH style, part of the Isoturn series. It features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle and an 11-degree relief angle (Clearance Code P). The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.3748 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inches (0.0157 inches). At 16.5 mm (0.6496 inches) in length and 0.1248 inches thick, this is a left-hand insert designed for precision turning operations. It is held in place by a screw and is suited for CNC lathes and turning centers where consistent geometry and dimensional accuracy are required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
This insert is intended for use on ISO-compliant toolholders that accept the TPGH insert style with screw-clamping. It is well-suited for finish and semi-finish turning of non-ferrous metals, cast iron, and heat-resistant super alloys, corresponding to ISO workpiece material categories K, M, and N. The IC20 uncoated carbide grade (Material Grade C2/C3) performs best in applications where sharp cutting edges and low cutting forces are critical. The H chip breaker geometry is optimized for light-to-medium depth cuts up to 4.0 mm (0.1570 inches).
Designed for ISO 13399-compliant TPGH-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, left-hand triangular insert. Suitable for workpiece material categories K, M, and N per ISO classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine in a full stop, lockout/tagout condition before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping screw to seat the insert fully in the pocket — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Verify insert orientation and hand designation against the toolholder specification before resuming operation. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
