The ISCAR 5501446 is a TNMA 332 triangular carbide turning insert from the Isoturn series, coated with aluminum oxide (Al2O3) via a CVD process and graded IC428. It carries a 60-degree included angle and a negative side clearance geometry, making it a flat-top, single-sided insert designed for precision turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches and the corner radius is 0.031 inches. Machinists and CNC lathe operators use this insert where high wear-resistance is the primary requirement. The IC428 grade is optimized for P-category steel at high wear-resistance and K-category cast iron at high to moderate wear-resistance, supporting consistent performance across extended production runs.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning applications on CNC lathes and manual turret lathes in production and job-shop environments. It fits clamp-and-pin style toolholders that accept TNMA-geometry inserts. Typical applications include finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel components and cast iron parts where edge integrity and surface finish consistency are critical. The flat-top chip breaker geometry is appropriate for controlled-chip turning at moderate to aggressive depths of cut up to 0.158 inches. This insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units per order.
Designed for use in TNMA-style clamp-and-pin toolholders accepting a 0.375-inch inscribed circle insert. Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and all motion axes locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert firmly against both locating surfaces of the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp or pin to ensure proper engagement and edge alignment. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification for the insert geometry.
