The ISCAR 3600683 is a left-hand MWLN-style indexable turning toolholder from the Isoturn series, designed for negative-rake external turning operations on a lathe. It features a square steel shank measuring 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall and an overall length of 6 inches. The head length is 1.13 inches, and the back-of-bar to cutting edge dimension is 1-1/4 inches. This toolholder accepts WN..43. series inserts, making it a direct-fit component for machinists and CNC turning specialists working with compatible insert geometries. It is a single-use-direction tool, designated exclusively for left-hand cutting.
This toolholder is suited for external turning applications where a left-hand cutting direction is required, such as turning toward the tailstock or working around shoulders and steps on a workpiece. The negative-rake geometry supports heavier interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials where edge strength is a priority. It is intended for use on manual engine lathes and CNC turning centers equipped to accept a 1-inch square shank toolholder. Machinists in production and job-shop environments will find the MWLN style familiar and straightforward to set up.
Designed to accept WN..43. series indexable inserts. Compatible insert size code is WN43. Verify that the lathe or CNC turning center tool post or turret accommodates a 1-inch square shank before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the lathe or turning center before mounting or changing the toolholder. Seat the shank fully into the tool post or turret block and torque the clamping screws evenly using the tool post manufacturer's specified wrench — do not over-tighten with impact tools. Confirm cutting-edge height relative to centerline before taking the first pass, as negative-rake toolholders are sensitive to center height for proper chip formation and surface finish.
