The ISCAR 3398981 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 1/2 inch cutting diameter, a 3/4 inch length of cut, and a 45-degree helix angle with a DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating for extended tool life and reduced friction. The submicron carbide grade provides high hardness and wear resistance. Three flutes with a variable index configuration improve chip evacuation and reduce chatter during aggressive cutting passes. This tool is a single-end design with right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction, suited for installation in standard CNC machining centers and manual mills by machinists and tooling technicians.
This end mill is well-suited for high-speed finishing and semi-finishing passes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. The extended reach design, with a 1-3/8 inch reach length, allows access to deeper pockets and stepped features without requiring a longer overall tool assembly. The 1/2 inch shank diameter fits standard collets and end mill holders used in most CNC and manual milling setups. It is appropriate for job shops, production machining environments, and tool rooms requiring consistent performance on tight-tolerance parts.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide square end mill replacement compatible with standard 1/2 inch collets and end mill holders used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, and confirm runout is within acceptable limits before beginning a cut.
