The ISCAR 3398295 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials. It features a 7/16 inch (0.4375 inch) mill diameter, a 1-1/2 inch length of cut, and a 4 inch overall length with a 7/16 inch shank diameter. The tool carries an AlTiCrSiN coating, a 38-degree helix angle, and a variable index geometry across four spiral flutes. Submicron grain carbide substrate supports rigidity and edge retention under aggressive cutting conditions. This is a single-end, right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool suited for machinists working in production and job-shop environments.
The 3398295 is engineered for milling hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys. The AlTiCrSiN coating performs well in dry and near-dry cutting where heat resistance at the cutting edge is critical. The variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic chatter, making it a practical choice for side milling, slotting, and finishing passes where surface finish and tool life both matter. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary installers and operators.
Designed for use in standard 7/16 inch collet or end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded H (hardened materials), K (cast iron), M (stainless steel), P (steel), and S (high-temp alloy) per ISO material classification.
Install in a clean, properly sized collet or shrink-fit holder to maintain concentricity and maximize tool life. Ensure the machine spindle and tool holder are free of chips and burrs before seating the shank. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and tooling supplier recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and depth of cut. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the tool if edge condition is compromised.
