The ISCAR 3341553 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the PentaCut series, designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the PENTA17N157P079P insert style designation with a manufacturer grade of IC1008 and a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating that supports high cutting speeds across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert delivers a cutting width of 1.57 mm (0.0618 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches), with a corner radius of 0.80 mm (0.0311 inches) and a positive 10-degree rake angle. It is screw-held and features a P-type chip breaker geometry.
This insert is suited for right-hand grooving applications in both production and job-shop turning environments. The IC1008 grade and universal workpiece material rating make it applicable across steel, cast iron, stainless, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and other materials corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is a multi-use insert appropriate for moderate to high cutting conditions where consistent chip control and edge durability are required. Machinists and CNC operators working in general-purpose turning will find this insert fits standard PentaCut toolholders designed for the 17N series.
Designed for use with ISCAR PentaCut series toolholders accepting the 17N insert size designation. Compatible with workpiece materials in ISO groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before each insert change to maintain accurate seating and cutting geometry.
