The ISCAR 3337221 is a solid carbide grooving insert from the PentaCut series, designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the PENTA17N080P000P designation with an IC1008 manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating. The insert delivers a cutting width of 0.80 mm (0.0314 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.50 mm (0.0984 inches). The positive 10-degree rake angle reduces cutting forces and heat generation, making this insert well-suited for finishing and light roughing passes on a wide range of workpiece materials.
This insert is appropriate for universal material applications, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, which span hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The P chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation at the cutting widths and depths common to grooving operations. Installation is secured via a screw-clamping method, consistent with PentaCut toolholder systems. It is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop turning environments.
Designed for use with ISCAR PentaCut series toolholders that accept the PENTA 17N insert style. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer. Verify toolholder insert pocket specifications before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Confirm insert seating and orientation before resuming cutting operations. Handling of carbide inserts should be done carefully, as edges are brittle and susceptible to chipping from impact.
