The ISCAR 3337218 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the PentaCut series, designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the PENTA17N050P000P geometry with a manufacturer grade of IC1008 and a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating that promotes wear resistance and heat dissipation at the cutting edge. It delivers a 0.5 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 2 mm, making it well suited for narrow-groove and parting applications where dimensional control is critical. Installation is screw-held, and the positive rake angle of 10 degrees reduces cutting forces across a broad range of workpiece materials.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. That range spans carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and non-metallic materials. Typical applications include grooving, undercutting, and parting on general-purpose turning equipment in production machine shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments. The right-hand cutting orientation suits standard spindle rotation setups.
Designed for use with ISCAR PentaCut series toolholders that accept the PENTA17N insert style. Verify toolholder seat geometry and screw torque specification against the ISCAR PentaCut toolholder documentation before installation.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct ISCAR torx or hex key for the clamping screw and do not overtighten, as this can damage the insert seat or screw threads. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Confirm cutting-edge orientation and depth-of-cut settings against the job setup sheet before resuming cutting.
