The ISCAR 3318601 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 28 threads per inch. Manufactured in the IC1007 grade with a submicron carbide substrate and PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert handles right-hand external threading operations on a wide range of workpiece materials. The 3/8 inch (9.52 mm) inscribed circle and 16ER insert style seat the insert securely in compatible ISCAR threading toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators install these inserts on lathes and turning centers where consistent thread form and tool life are priorities in high-mix or production threading work.
This insert is suited for external UN thread profiles at 28 TPI on materials spanning steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous, and heat-resistant alloys, consistent with its H, K, M, N, P, and S material grade designations. Typical applications include threading fastener features, fittings, and precision mechanical components on CNC turning equipment. The TiAlN coating improves wear resistance and thermal stability, making this insert a practical choice for both dry and light-coolant threading passes where coated carbide grades are preferred.
Designed for use with ISCARTHREAD series external threading toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Confirm toolholder insert pocket geometry and clamping style before installation.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench or insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the clamping screw — do not overtighten by hand. Verify insert seating, thread pitch, and depth-of-cut parameters against the programmed tool path before resuming cutting operations.
