The ISCAR 3308180 is a DNMG-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ISO 13399 standards, this insert carries the IC830 grade designation with a multi-layer PVD coating stack of TiAlN, AlTiN, and TiN, marketed under ISCAR's SumoTec proprietary coating process. The GN chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation during medium to finish turning passes. At 15.5 mm in length with a 12.7 mm inscribed circle and a 1.2 mm corner radius, this insert delivers consistent edge geometry suited to tight-tolerance turning work. It is intended for right-hand cutting configurations and carries a positive rake orientation.
This insert belongs to ISCAR's Isoturn series and is rated for primary workpiece material groups M (stainless steel), P (carbon and alloy steel), and S (heat-resistant superalloys and titanium). It is well suited for medium turning and finishing passes where controlled chip evacuation and edge stability are required. The DNMG form factor (55-degree diamond, N clearance, M tolerance) fits standard DNMG toolholders commonly used in production turning environments. Maximum depth of cut is 5.0 mm. This insert is typically deployed in job shops, production machining cells, and aerospace or energy component manufacturing.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for DNMG 433 toolholders conforming to ISO 13399 standards. Compatible with standard DNMG-style turning toolholders accepting a 12.7 mm (0.500 inch) inscribed circle insert with 55-degree diamond geometry. Verify holder clamping style and chip breaker clearance requirements before installation.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when seating the insert clamp — do not over-tighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for damage or debris before seating a new insert, as a contaminated pocket will compromise edge repeatability and can cause premature failure.
