The ISCAR 3308175 is the SC45MT100508-SM IC830 carbide turning insert from the ChamTurn series, designed for right-hand turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 90-degree square shape with a 0.031-inch corner radius and a 9.52 mm (0.375 inch) length and width, with a thickness of 5.00 mm (0.197 inch). The IC830 grade uses a PVD-applied TiAlN/AlTiN/TiN multilayer coating marketed under ISCAR's SumoTec designation, providing a combination of wear resistance and toughness suited for interrupted and continuous cuts. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert in compatible ChamTurn toolholders for finish to medium machining passes.
This insert is optimized for turning steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), special and super alloys (ISO S), and hardened materials (ISO H). The SM chip breaker geometry supports finishing and medium machining operations with a maximum depth of cut of 3.00 mm (0.118 inch). It carries a negative side clearance and is suitable for applications demanding moderate to high wear resistance with maintained toughness. Typical use cases include shaft turning, facing, and profiling operations in production machining environments.
Designed for use in ISCAR ChamTurn toolholders accepting SC45MT-style square inserts with ANSI and ISO size code 100508. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and clamping method before installation.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out, and de-energized state per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert; do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify insert orientation for right-hand cutting direction before resuming operation.
