The ISCAR 3308173 is a solid carbide tangential turning insert designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It carries the IC830 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer PVD coating combining TiAlN, AlTiN, and TiN finishes under ISCARs proprietary SumoTec coating process. The insert is configured for right-hand cutting with a 0.8mm corner radius and measures 13.4mm in thickness. It belongs to the Heliturn series and is intended for installation and use by machinists and tooling technicians working on CNC lathes and turning centers. The positive rake geometry and tangential insert shape support efficient chip formation across a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for turning operations on steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO workpiece material groups P, M, and S. Typical applications include external and internal profiling, facing, and continuous turning passes where consistent edge life and surface finish are required. The HT chip breaker designation indicates geometry optimized for medium-depth turning cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 6.0mm. It is used in industrial production and job shop environments on CNC turning equipment.
Designed for use in ISCAR Heliturn series toolholders that accept LNMX-style tangential inserts with insert size code 150608. Compatible with turning applications on workpiece materials in ISO groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), and S (high-temperature alloys and titanium).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert to prevent improper seating and premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturers specified clamping torque procedure as outlined in the toolholder documentation.
