The ISCAR 3308164 is a CPMT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in CNC and manual lathe applications. It carries the IC830 manufacturer grade and features a multi-layer PVD coating of TiAlN, AlTiN, and TiN under ISCAR's proprietary SumoTec surface treatment. The 80-degree diamond insert shape (shape code C) provides a strong cutting edge and good versatility across a range of turning operations. With a 0.40 mm corner radius and positive rake geometry, this insert is suited for light to medium roughing and finishing passes where edge sharpness and chip control are priorities. The PF chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip flow. This insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
This insert is applicable to turning operations on workpiece materials classified under ISO material groups M (stainless steel), P (steel), and S (superalloys and titanium). It is part of the Isoturn series and is intended for use in CPMT-compatible toolholders. The right-hand cutting orientation and CPMT 2-1-PF ISO designation narrow compatibility to toolholders spec'd for that insert style and size. Typical install environments include production turning cells and job shop CNC lathes where consistent surface finish and predictable tool life are required.
Designed for use in CPMT-style toolholders accepting a 2-1 insert size with a 0.25-inch (1/4 inch) inscribed circle. Compatible with workpiece materials in ISO groups M, P, and S per the input specification. Consult ISCAR Isoturn toolholder documentation to confirm seat geometry and clamping method before installation.
Carbide turning inserts are seated and secured by a licensed machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can chip the insert or damage the seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before installing a new insert.
