The ISCAR 3308144 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG431-TF geometry, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC830 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN/AlTiN/TiN multilayer coating marketed under ISCAR's SumoTec designation. The 55-degree diamond shape (insert shape code D) with a positive rake and TF chip breaker makes this insert well-suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. The corner radius measures 0.40 mm (0.0160 inches) and the inscribed circle is 12.70 mm (0.500 inches). Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install this insert in compatible toolholders as a direct replaceable cutting edge.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece materials coded M, P, and S under ISO classification, covering stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. It fits the ISCAR Isoturn series toolholding system and suits both roughing-light and finishing depths of cut up to 3.00 mm (0.118 inches). Typical install scenarios include shaft turning, facing, and contour operations on horizontal and vertical turning lathes in manufacturing, aerospace, and general metalworking shops. Right-hand cutting orientation is standard for this configuration.
Designed for use in DNMG-style toolholders within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Compatible with right-hand toolholder seats accepting a 55-degree diamond insert with a 4.76 mm insert thickness and 12.70 mm inscribed circle per ISO DNMG 431 specifications.
This insert is installed and replaced by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before installation to prevent insert rocking and premature edge failure.
