The ISCAR 3203208 is a replaceable-tip drill body from the SumoCham series, designed for precision holemaking in metal cutting applications. It accepts interchangeable drill-tip inserts rather than a brazed or solid cutting head, allowing worn tips to be swapped without replacing the entire tool body. The drill covers a diameter range of 0.374 to 0.390 inches, reaches a maximum drilling depth of 2.99 inches, and features through-coolant capability to flush chips and manage heat at the cutting zone. The 0.500-inch Weldon flat shank provides positive rotational drive in compatible toolholders. This tool body is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC drilling and machining center setups.
The 3203208 is suited for production holemaking operations where consistent hole quality and fast tip changeover are priorities. The SumoCham system targets applications in steel, stainless, cast iron, and other ferrous materials commonly encountered in general machining, mold and die, and component manufacturing environments. The 8xD depth-to-diameter ratio makes it appropriate for moderate-depth holes where chip evacuation is managed by the through-coolant supply. It is used in horizontal and vertical machining centers equipped with internal coolant delivery.
Compatible insert styles include FCP, ICK, ICK-2M, ICM, ICN, ICP, and iCP-2M with an insert seat size of 9. The toolholder style designation is DCN. The shank fits standard 0.500-inch Weldon flat toolholders and shrink-fit or set-screw holders bored to 0.500 inch.
Installation and tip changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Torque the insert tip according to the insert manufacturer's specification sheet for the applicable insert style — do not use generic torque values. Confirm through-coolant passages are clear and the machine's coolant system is pressurized to the range required for the insert grade in use before beginning the cut. Inspect the insert seat and body bore for chips or damage before each tip change.
